Villa María Lodge – Week 2: January 3rd to 9th, 2025

We’ve had an excellent second week of the season, filled with excitement and new learning experiences. Both the river and weather conditions remained favorable, though we might say the weather was “too good” in some respects. Several days saw temperatures ranging from 20 to 24°C, with bright sunshine and virtually no wind. The water temperature reached 17°C, which is unusual for this time of year.

These conditions made fishing a bit more challenging, but our anglers proved that adaptability is key. We had to fine-tune our techniques, shifting from sinking tips to floating or slow-sink lines. Classic streamers and rubber-legged flies gave way to more delicate nymphs and dry flies, which turned out to be the best tools for achieving the desired catches.

As the day wound down, medium-sized streamers continued to perform well, adding thrilling moments to the end of the sessions.

Looking ahead, the weather is expected to shift. Stronger winds and temperatures dropping as low as 5°C will bring a welcome change. This is anticipated to improve river conditions, which already holds an abundance of running fish. We’re excited for what lies ahead!
