Kau Tapen Lodge – Week 6: February 8th to 15th, 2025

We’ve just wrapped up the sixth week of fishing here at Kau Tapen, with a fantastic group of international anglers from Europe and the US joining us for some action on both the Rio Grande and Menendez rivers.
Water levels remained low across both rivers, which meant we had to adopt a delicate approach to ensure successful fishing during daylight hours. The weather was relatively steady, though we had a day and a half of strong winds. While the winds didn’t hinder our ability to catch fish, they did make it more challenging to cover the water adequately and maintain control of our casts, especially on the swing.

With the season progressing and water levels low, fish are beginning to settle into their holding spots, which led us to adjust our strategy slightly. Even though the fishing was a bit tougher this week, we still had some incredible moments. We landed fish ranging from 5 to 24 pounds, including a 24-pounder, a 20-pounder, and several fish over 15 pounds. As always, the late hours of the day proved to be the most productive. The Menendez River continues to impress, leaving every guest eager to return for more.
Another week full of memorable moments and great fishing, proving once again that patience and adaptability are key in making the most of what the river offers.
