Villa María Lodge – Week 9: February 21st to 28th, 2025

A Week of Cold Weather and Great Catches!

It’s been an interesting week at Villa María Lodge! From the start, a cold air mass from Antarctica dominated the weather, bringing low temperatures and strong winds. Despite these challenging conditions, the weather remained relatively stable, allowing for excellent fishing throughout the week.

At times, the temperature dropped close to 0°C, and the water temperature fell to around 7°C. This definitely affected the fishing, but it also tested our skills—and the fish responded positively!

The last two days brought strong winds, making fishing more difficult, but we still had an excellent week, landing five fish over 20 pounds. The highlight of the week was Adrian’s spectacular 23-pound sea trout. What a catch!

As the water cooled, we had to adapt quickly. We moved away from the lighter lines that had worked well in previous weeks and switched to fast-sinking techniques to reach the deeper areas where the sea trout were hanging out. Despite the cold water and overcast conditions, we stuck with small flies—ranging from small nymphs to the reliable green machine and weighted micro streamers. These little flies gave us great results, even in low-light conditions.

Looking ahead, some rain is expected next week, but it is not expected to be enough to change the river levels significantly. So unless the weather shifts drastically, we can expect another great week of fishing, with some strategies adjusted to the cooler conditions.

Looking forward to another great week of fishing and enjoying the beauty of nature!
