Kau Tapen Lodge – Week 11: March 15th to 22nd , 2025

We’ve just wrapped up the eleventh week of fishing here at Kau Tapen, with a wonderful group of international anglers from the United Kingdom and the US. It’s been another week of learning, adapting, and chasing the elusive sea trout on both the Rio Grande and Menendez rivers.

Since the rise two weeks ago, the water levels have continued to drop, bringing the river back to its lowest point seen earlier in the season. Combined with the colder temperatures typical of this time of year, the fishing presented its challenges. However, that’s what makes it all the more rewarding when you figure it out. The fluctuating temperatures throughout the day meant we had to be versatile in our approach, adjusting fly and line selection to match the conditions. It kept us on our toes and made every catch feel that much more earned.

Despite the tougher conditions, we landed amazing seatrouts throughout the week, with the largest reaching 19 pounds. The diversity in our techniques—from smaller nymphs to larger streamers—made each day feel like a new adventure, and the river continued to reward our persistence.

Overall, it’s been a week full of memorable moments, from quiet early mornings to the thrill of a solid hookset as the fish fought their way through the fast-flowing waters. We’re grateful to be able to share this experience with such passionate anglers and look forward to what the coming weeks will bring.
