Kau Tapen Lodge – Week 7: February 15th to 22nd, 2025

We’ve just wrapped up the seventh week of fishing on both the Rio Grande and Menendez rivers, hosting a great group of international anglers from Europe and the US.

Water levels remained low on both rivers, which required us to adopt a delicate approach to ensure successful catches during daylight hours. The weather was fairly average, with a couple of high-intensity wind days. While the winds didn’t affect the fishing itself, they did make it challenging to cover the water properly, both in terms of casting and line control during the swing.

With the low water levels and the time of season, the fish are beginning to settle into their holding spots rather than continuing to run. This shifted our strategy slightly, but we still fished all available water. Small nymphs in natural colors and long leaders became the dominant technique for the week.

While fishing was tougher than usual, we still managed to land very nice fish for the week, ranging from 5 to 18 pounds. As always, the late hours of the day proved to be the most productive. The Menendez River continues to surprise us, leaving every guest eager to return for more.
Another challenging but rewarding week on the water!
