Kau Tapen Lodge – Week 9: March 1st to 8th, 2025

We’ve just wrapped up the tenth week of fishing on both the Rio Grande and Menendez rivers, hosting a group of international anglers from the United Kingdom.

Following the rain from the previous week, the Rio Grande gained some color, and the fish began to spread out, providing better opportunities during morning and early evening sessions. Mid-week, we saw more rain, which had a greater impact on the Menendez River, bringing the water to life and allowing us to experience the full potential of this smaller tributary. We landed some impressive fish, including a majestic 20-pound dark male, a true highlight of the week.

The Rio Grande remained similar to the previous week, with faster water but still gin-clear. This required us to switch between tackle and fly selection to adapt. As usual in March, temperatures began to drop, and even with clear water, larger flies proved to make a difference in the early mornings when the water was still cold.

We had a fantastic week of fishing, with anglers trying various techniques and experiencing different styles of fishing. It’s always a joy to see them grow in their craft and continue to learn on this beautiful quest to catch sea trout.
