Pirá Lodge Fishing Report: Action-Packed Days on the Water
The fishing season at Pirá Lodge is off to an incredible start, with the Iberá Marshland and Corriente River teeming with fish. Recently, we’ve noticed fresh arrivals from downstream on the Paraná River. These migratory fish are easy to spot thanks to their vivid, clear coloration.
As we approach the spawning season, dorados are gathering in key areas of the river, particularly where the current runs strongest. When you hook one, it’s common to see others circling nearby—these spots are highly productive, often delivering a strike on nearly every cast.
Currently, most of the dorados we’re landing weigh between 5 and 8 pounds. Their explosive takes, acrobatic jumps, and powerful runs make them a thrill to target and truly one-of-a-kind.
We’re employing a range of techniques to suit the conditions. In the Corriente River, sinking lines and swung flies—similar to salmon or trout fishing—are producing great results. In the marsh, we’re using floating lines with dry flies and streamers to entice strikes.
The steady water level provides excellent fishing conditions across the river and channels. With water temperatures at 78°F and a slightly tannin-stained color, the environment is ideal for fish and our anglers.
The wildlife here remains as pristine and diverse as ever. On any given outing, you’ll likely encounter an array of bird species, caiman, capybaras, marsh deer, and a vibrant mosaic of blooming aquatic plants like lily pads. The marsh truly feels like an endless, floating garden.
