Villa María Lodge – Week 11: March 7th to 14th, 2025

We started the week with high water levels following heavy rains from the previous days. Water temperatures were low, and some turbidity from suspended sediment made the fishing a bit more challenging. Under these conditions, we relied on heavy lines and large flies—intruders and leeches were the go-to choices to tempt the fish in the slower, deeper runs.

As the days went on, the river gradually dropped and cleared, allowing us to switch to smaller patterns like micro streamers and our trusty Green Machines, paired with fast-sinking tips, though not as long or heavy as earlier in the week.

The highlight of the week came from Jean Daniel, who landed a stunning 21 lb hen. Jean visits us every year around this time, knowing that these late weeks can be technically demanding, but often reward patience and skill. Well done, Jean!

Looking ahead, the forecast calls for strong winds and some rain, so next week is sure to bring a new set of challenges. But that’s the beauty of the Río Grande—nothing ever stays the same, and that’s exactly why we love it!
