Villa María Lodge – Week 5: January 24th to 31st, 2025

We’ve just wrapped up an epic week here at Villa Maria Lodge, and what a week it’s been! For our 5th week, we had a group of well-known guests join us, adding a bit of star power to our fishing adventures.

The weather was mostly stable and super pleasant. There were a few light showers near the river’s headwaters, causing the water levels to fluctuate a bit—but nothing we couldn’t handle! The water temperature dipped slightly compared to previous weeks, settling into the perfect range of 10 to 13°C (50 to 55°F). This cooler temp was just what the fish ordered, sparking more activity and making for some exciting fishing sessions.

While the total number of catches might have been a bit lower than in past years, the average weight of our catches is off the charts! This week alone, we landed four stunning fish, each weighing over 20 lbs. Gina kicked things off with a fiery 20-lb beauty fresh from the river! Not to be outdone, Bruno and Gerald followed up with impressive 22-lb catches each. And then, to top it all off, Hans wrapped up the week with a stunning 23-lb male that couldn’t resist a tiny nymph. What a way to end the week!

We’re still rocking our trusty lightweight lines—and in many cases, we’re using float lines paired with small flies. Whether it’s a variety of nymphs or our dependable green machines, our gear choices were spot on. During low-light hours, we switched things up with more aggressive silhouettes like collie dog tubes and leeches, which truly stole the show and helped us reel in those big ones.

Looking ahead, we’ve got big rains forecast for next week! Fingers crossed the weather gods keep our conditions just as great as they’ve been. After all, nothing beats another week of top-notch fishing at Villa Maria Lodge!

Stay tuned for more river tales, and remember—tight lines and even tighter stories make for the best fishing adventures!

Happy fishing, everyone!
