Villa María Lodge – Week 7: February 7th to 14th, 2025

This past week brought us stable weather, making it one of the most pleasant weeks of the season. However, as often happens when the weather is too nice, there’s a downside—no rain in the forecast or up in the highlands, causing the river levels to drop significantly. As a result, we turned to our tried-and-true “low water” techniques: light lines, long leaders, and tiny flies became the rule. Only during the lowest light conditions did we switch to streamers of different silhouettes. Some anglers swore by Sunray Shadows, while others remained loyal to articulated flies, particularly rabbit-based patterns.

Beyond the many beautiful fish landed throughout the week, the standout moment belonged to Ed, who is already on our Wall of Fame from his 2023 season record catch. On the very last cast, of the very last session, of the very last day, Ed broke the curse and managed to hook, fight, and land a stunning 20-pound female. Well done, Ed!

Looking ahead, we expect similar weather conditions, though there may be a few colder, rainy, and windy days—just enough to remind us that autumn is on the horizon and March is just around the corner.

Cheers & tight lines!
